Cover (light-brown color, beautifully composed) and book ornamentation by S. Chekhonin. 'The Bat' was the famous Russian Theater of Miniatures: the first theater-cabaret. Founded by Nikita Baliev in 1908, existed until 1920. [Baliev, Nikita (1886?-1936): Well-known Russian actor. Especially known as director and master of ceremonies of founded by him first Russian Theater-cabaret 'The Bat'. Emigrated with his theater in 1920. Performed in Paris, New York. Died in U.S. Chekhonin, Sergei (1878-1936 Germany): Well-known Russian and Soviet artist. Painter, graphic artist. Posters, porcelain, bookplates, agitprop. 'World of Art', 'Dom Iskusstv', 'Obshchina Khudozhnikov', AKhRR. Exhibited in 1922 (Berlin) with Archipenko, Chagall, Dobuzhinsky, Exter, Filonov, Gabo, Kandinsky, Lissitzky, Malevich, Popova, Puni (Pougny), Rodchenko, Rozanova, Stenberg, Stepanova, Tatlin, etc.]
