XXXV, 212 pp. Illustrated with frontispiece and plates (tissue guards preserved). Warmly inscribed in English [by the publisher] (1904, without signature).

Princess Maria Nikolaevna Volkonsky (Volkonskaia, Volkonskaya, Wolkonsky) (1805-1863): one of the most remarkable women in Russian history. Daughter of the famous general N. N. Raevsky, wife of dekabrist [decembrist] Prince S. G. Volkonsky. When Prince was sent to Siberia, Maria Volkonsky shared the exile with her husband.
