Famous Russian and Soviet Jewish Avant-garde artist. Paintings, graphics, sculpture, theater, posters, book design, porcelain, agitprop. Studied in Odessa and Paris. Exhibited from 1906 ("World of Art", "Knave of Diamonds", "Union of Youth", etc) in 1922 (Berlin) with Archipenko, Chagall, Filonov, Gabo, Lissitzky, Malevich, Puni (Pougny), Rozanova, Tatlin; in 1925 (Paris) with Kandinsky, Mayakovsky, Popova, Rodchenko, etc.. Worked for Jewish theater, illustrated Jewish books.
