Nissky [Nisskiy, Nisski, Nisskii, Nisskij], Georgy [Georgiy, Georgi, Georgii, Georgij] Grigorievich [Grigor'evich, Grigoryevich] (1903-1987)

Well-known Russian Soviet painter. Born in 1903 (Byelorussia), died in 1987 (Moscow). Studied at VKhUTEMAS-VKhUTEIN from Drevin and Falk. Exhibited at innumerable exhibitions at home and abroad (166 exhibitions only up to 1958 inclusive). He is a highly acclaimed artist, known mostly for his landscape paintings. For his works Nissky was awarded with Order of the Labor Red Banner and many medals, was a winner of the State Prize of the USSR, received the highest title - People's Artist of the Russian Federation, and was elected as a full member of the Academy of Arts. In 2003 State Tretyakov Gallery in collaboration with Russian Academy of Arts celebrated a Birth Centenary of the artist with a great exhibition of his works from the Tretyakov Gallery and other museums.
