Ukhtomsky [Ukhtomskiy, Ukhtomski, Ukhtomskii, Ukhtomskij, Oukhtomsky, Oukhtomski, Ookhtomsky], Prince Esper Esperovich (1861-1921)

Prince Esper Esperovich Ukhtomsky (1861-1921) was a famous Orientalist knows as one of greatest specialists in Buddhism. His Buddhist Siberian collection was considered the best one at his time and was awarded with the gold medal at the International Exhibition in Paris in 1900. He also was an editor of the “Sankt-Peterburgskie Vedomosti” and president of the Russo-Chinese bank.

Ukhtomsky was the personal escort and diary keeper of Czar Nicholas II during his journey as Czarevich to the Orient in 1890-91.
