Sedliar) Tomakh, Sergey and Yevgen Kholostenko
UKRAINS'KY REVOLIUTSIINY PLIAKAT ("Ukrainian Revolutionary Poster")
Kiiv [Kiev]: KKhI, 1932
Authors: Sergey [Sergei] Ivanovich Tomakh and Yevgen [Evgeny, Yevgeniy] Viacheslavovich Kholostenko (1904-1945). Design by Ol. Ger. Cover by Vasyl' Sedliar. Text in Ukrainian. 4to (10" x 7") card covers with dust jacket. 90 full-size b/w illustrations. 1000 copies only. Warmly inscribed and signed by both authors (1932) to well-known Soviet art critic Aleksey Ivanovich Mikhailov (1904-?). The book is FINE, DJ is Very Good. The book was published by Kiev Artistic Institute, the center of the Ukraine Avant-garde art in 1920's. Notes: After members of the Avant-garde group of "boichukisty" were repressed by the Soviet government, not only their works were destroyed (frescoes in the Chervonozavods'kyi Club, etc.), but also printed works like posters and even books in which they participated were eliminated. Copies of this book were also removed from libraries: a) it contains illustrations of Avant-garde works; b) at least one of authors (both authors were also artists themselves), i.e. Kholostenko, belonged to the Boichuk brothers group; c) Vasyl' Sedliar, who designed the book cover, was an active member of the same group. Very Rare, especially in such condition, with DJ and signed. Not in MOMA, not in Getty. Larger image Larger image Larger image Larger image
