The book was published by Kiev Artistic Institute, the center of the Ukraine Avant-garde art in 1920's.

Notes:
After members of the Avant-garde group of "boichukisty" were repressed by the Soviet government, not only their works were destroyed (frescoes in the Chervonozavods'kyi Club, etc.), but also printed works like posters and even books in which they participated were eliminated. Copies of this book were also removed from libraries: a) it contains illustrations of Avant-garde works; b) at least one of authors (both authors were also artists themselves), i.e. Kholostenko, belonged to the Boichuk brothers group; c) Vasyl' Sedliar, who designed the book cover, was an active member of the same group.

Very Rare, especially in such condition, with DJ and signed. Not in MOMA, not in Getty.

Text in English. 4to (10-3/4" x 8-1/2") full ornate leather richly decorated in gilt and red. Decorated epps with embossed symbol of nobility (Savitsch's coat of arms). Reprints of author's articles from the Gazette des Beaux-Arts. Warmly inscribed by Savitsch to a member of the Prince Wolkonsky family from whom the author was studied.

An interesting association copy, obviously specially manufactured by the well-known author to be a nice gift. Provenance: Prince Volkonskiy family. CS.

Some catalogues have illustrated covers (Sarian, Pavlinov, et al.); some are illustrated; some items contain biographical information about artists and their portraits; some may be inscribed/autographed; some catalogues may contain professional notes made at the time of visiting of exhibitions. The last item is a guide. In various condition.
