Princess Maria Nikolaevna Volkonsky (Volkonskaia, Volkonskaya, Wolkonsky) (1805-1863): one of the most remarkable women in Russian history. Daughter of the famous general N. N. Raevsky, wife of dekabrist [decembrist] Prince S. G. Volkonsky. When Prince was sent to Siberia, Maria Volkonsky shared the exile with her husband.

An album in 4to (10-1/4" x 7") containing 39 original photographs of various sizes (from 1-1/8" x 1-3/4" to 6-3/8" x 4-5/8"), mostly of the artist himself and his works of 1920's, with the artist's captions of titles and dates. The photographs include Svetlov's manifesto and the famous photo "OBMOKHU" portraying Konstantin Medunetsky, Georgy Stenberg and Sergey Svetlov, silver print.

Text in Russian. Paper mounted on oil-cloth (?). 16-1/2 x 12-1/2 in. Design by Adolf Strakhov (color linocut?). The award was sealed and signed by S. Budionny and K. Voroshilov. Revolutionary War Council awarded Tsibul'sky in commemoration of the first anniversary of the First Cavalry Army. [Budionny and Voroshilov: two the most famous heroes of the Civil War. Semion Budionny (b. 1893) was a commander of the legendary First Cavalry Army (known also for its atrocities). Kliment Voroshilov (b. 1881): a famous Civil War commander, later Defense Minister, one of the closest assistants of Stalin.]
